SQL Server as a Polyglot Platform: Data, Embeddings, and Hybrid Search
SQL Server is no longer just about tables, indexes, and stored procedures. Over time, it has absorbed capabilities for JSON, XML, geographic and spatial data, temporal tables, ledger, graph, full-text search, external data sources, REST calls, AI models, and vector search. In this session, we will see how these features can be used together to reduce the number of components required in a real-world solution. The demo starts from a photo archive managed by an external DAM and shows how to bring metadata, EXIF information, places and geographic coordinates, historical weather data, descriptions generated by a local AI model, graph relationships, and hybrid full-text/vector search into SQL Server. The goal is not to claim that SQL Server should replace every specialized service, but to show when it can become a convergence point for heterogeneous data, automation, geography, AI, and governance.
